Setting up a connection to Freewire
This page describes how to setup a connection to Freewire from scratch on an Apple Macintosh machine running MacOS 8. It is assumed you have an existing ISP connection or have dial-up networking installed.
When using MacOS8 to connect to the internet, there are two items that need to be configured; TCP/IP and PPP. We start with TCP/IP.
TCP/IP
| Step 1 |
In the Apple Menu (top left), go down to Control Panels then TCP/IP. Ignore this window for now. From the File menu select Configurations. |
 |
| Step 2 |
There will be a set called Default. Highlight this with the mouse and select Duplicate. Name the set Freewire. |
 |
| Step 3 |
Click on Make Active and the following window will appear. Insert 195.184.229.250 and195.184.228.6 as the name server addresses. |
 |
| Step 4 |
As this is a modem connection, we need to select Connect Via: PPP. |
| Step 5 |
Click the box at the top left to close the window and select Save when prompted. |
PPP
| Step 6 |
Back to the Apple Menu. Go to Control Panels and select PPP. Again, ignore the window that appears and go to the File menu and select Configurations. |
 |
| Step 7 |
Once again, there will be a Default set. Highlight this and select Duplicate. Name this set Freewire. |
 |
| Step 8 |
Click on Make Active and the following window will appear. |
 |
| Step 9 |
Enter your nodename, password and the phone number,
0845 638 9608. |
 |
| Step 10 |
Click on Options and make sure the boxes are identical to the ones below. |

|
You are now ready to connect!
As an example the username 'free' and password 'freewire' could be used to connect.
