  Setting up a connection to Freewire

 

This page describes how to setup a connection to Freewire from scratch on an Apple Macintosh machine running MacOS X. These instructions assume that you are using an iMac.

Step 1 From the Apple menu select System Preferences.

Step 2 Click the Network icon.

Step 3 Click the arrow box on the Show pop-up list and choose Internal Modem.
Step 4 Click on the TCP/IP tab.

Step 5 Click the arrow box on the Configure pop-up list and choose Using PPP.
Step 6 In the Domain Name Servers box, type the DNS server addresses for your domain 195.184.229.250 and 195.184.228.6.
Step 7 Click on the PPP tab.

Step 8 In the Telephone Number field, type the dialup number 0845 638 9608.
Step 9 In the Account Name field, type your nodename.
Step 10 In the Password field, type your password.
Step 11 Check the box next to Save password.
Step 12 Click the PPP Options button.
Step 13 Check the box next to Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications.
Step 14 Uncheck the box next to Prompt to stay connected.
Step 15 Uncheck the box next to Disconnect if idle.
Step 16 Check the box next to Disconnect when user logs out.
Step 17 Click the OK button.
Step 18 Click on the Proxies tab.

Step 19 Uncheck all the boxes.
Step 20 Click on the Modem tab.

Step 21 Click the arrow box on the Modem pop-up list and choose Apple Internal 56K Modem (v.90).
Step 22 Click the Tone radio button in the Dialing area.
Step 23 Check the box next to Show modem status in menu bar.
Step 24 Click the Apply Now button.
Step 25 Close the Network window.

You are now ready to connect!

As an example the username 'free' and password 'freewire' could be used to connect.
