Setting up a connection to Freewire

 

This page describes how to setup a connection to Freewire from scratch on a machine running Windows 2000.

Step 1 Click on Start, choose Settings and then Network and Dial Up Connections.

Step 2 Double click on Make New Connection which brings up the connection wizard below. Click Next

Step 3 Select Dial-up to the Internet and click Next.

Step 4 Select I want to set up my Internet connection manually as above, then click on Next.

Step 5 Select I connect through a phone line and a modem then click on Next.

Step 6 In the Domain Name Servers box, type the DNS server addresses for your domain 195.184.229.250 and 195.184.228.6.

Step 7 Enter the phone number, 0845 638 9608, then click on the Advanced button.

Step 8 Under Connection type, select PPP and under Logon procedure select None. Click on the Addresses tab.

Step 9 Select Internet service provider automatically provides one. Click on OK.

Step 10 Click on Next to continue.
Step 11 Enter your nodename and password then click Next.

Step 12 Enter a connection name such as Freewire and then click Next.

Step 13 To setup your e-mail, select Yes then click on Next.

Step 14 You have the choice of using any existing e-mail account details or you can set up a new account. To set up a new account, select Create a new Internet mail account and click on Next.

Step 15 Enter your name and click on Next.

Step 16 Enter your e-mail address (mailbox@nodename.freewire.co.uk) and click on Next.

Step 17 Select POP3 and enter the mail servers, pop3.freewire.net as the incoming server and smtp.freewire.net as the outgoing server. Click on Next.

Step 18 Enter you nodename and password. Put a tick in Remember password. Click on Next.

Step 19 Click on Finish to complete the setup.

You are now ready to connect!

As an example the username 'free' and password 'freewire' could be used to connect.
