  Setting up a connection to Freewire

 

This page describes how to setup a connection to Freewire from scratch on a machine running Windows 98. It is assumed that DIal-Up Networking is already installed.

Step 1 Go to My Computer. In here you should see an icon called Dial-Up Networking. Double-click on this, then double-click on Make New Connection.

Step 2 Type Freewire as the name for the connection, make sure that your modem is highlighted in the Select a device list and click on Next.

Step 3 Enter the phone number, 0845 638 9608 and click on Next.

Step 5 Click Finish.
Step 6 Right-click on the Freewire connection icon and go to Properties.
Step 8 Select the Server Types tab and remove the ticks from Log on to network, NetBEUI and IPX/SPX Compatible.

Step 9 Click on the TCP/IP Settings button and under IP address, select Server assigned IP address. Under DNS  server address, select Server assigned name server addressses.

Step 10 Click on OK to return to the dialup networking window.
Step 11 Double-click on the new dial up icon to bring up the window below.

Step 12 Enter your nodename and password and then click on Connect.

You are now ready to connect!

As an example the username 'free' and password 'freewire' could be used to connect.
